Ok, so I am going to rebuild my 6L80E due to my increasing power output and towing.
I'm going with a "stage 4" rebuild /components to make it as bulletproof as possible.
My concern is choosing the torque converter. There are plenty of "high performance" Converters out
there. But I want a Heavy Duty one.. The Billet converter builders all do 258/ 10.5" converters.
I want/need a fullsize 300mm /12" converter. I would like it to be billet if possible. And I would
like it to be multi disc lockup clutches..
A 6L90 from a Caddy CTS-V was suggested as it is a dual disc gm factory converter, but it
has a stall of 2000-2400 rpm... That's in a much lighter vehicle with NO Towing...
So I'm sure it would act very "loose" in my Denali XL.
The stock stall speed as far as I can find, is about 1600 rpm.. I think I'd like to keep
the new stall around 1800 rpm just to help with idle creep a bit.
I've contacted many converter builders with no clear answer/choice yet.
Any real world experience is appreciated !!!
