Just got a Yukon, 03, SLT, 1500,5.3 L., 3.73 axle ratio. I haul an open car hauler trailer, 4000 lb. In tow haul mode it shifts down on mild grades at moderate speeds (60-65). I tried it without tow mode and it seemed to pull easier with less engine revving. I let it slow down on inclines. Would this be ok or should I stay with he Tow Haul Mode?

Can't speak for your 2003, but in my '09 there are a number of things that Tow-Haul mode does, and these I got directly from a GM engineer.
Holds gears longer before upshifting, so the engine doesn't lug down. And it keeps the transmission from hunting between gears which builds up heat in the trans.
Offers downshifting for better vehicle control when going down a long grade to take some of the load off the brakes.
The auto blink function will blink 6 times rather than just 3 in regular mode.
On autoride vehicles, the electronic settings for the shocks are firmed up in tow-haul.
