Towing stability

Is there any stability response/support in a 2021 Yukon Denali when towing without the factory brake controller installed? I'm towing 5300lbs w/Curt after-market brake controller + WDH and interested in towing info in general.

I understand the vehicle can't apply trailer braking (doesn't know about them) with Curt but I thought I read something about vehicle wheel braking / stability assist that could help a bit with sway based on general vehicle stability sensors? or is that just misinformation....

In all honesty, I don’t know. How it applies the brakes and manages stability without knowing there’s a trailer behind it could be counterproductive or productive, I reckon.

I’ve had the system engage a couple of times before in emergency avoidance situations, but never in response to a strong gust of wind. Really impressive to experience in the moment.

Went back and found the feature I read when purchasing the rig....

Based on you're comments, I'm guessing the "(if properly equipped)" means GMC integrated tow package.

On the other hand, a little google found these.....
This youtube (11 yrs ago) talks about stabilitrack supported sway control standard on all GMC vehicles and shows a single axle trailer (no brakes).

Here's another one (7 yrs old / truck) and says stabillitrack but shows/implies it's related to the OEM brake controller on a trailer w/brakes.

I just picked one up and the reviews look good but they could be fake.

Edited 11/11/23:

Checked the bolts again the other day. Top bolt loose. Bottom bolt tight as all get out. I had just tightened them both equally 10 days ago.

My theory is that one of the two caliper pistons was fully or partially seized, therefore putting uneven pressure on the rotor, which in turn caused the bolts to get out of torque. 20-year-old original calipers, showing some rust. Upon further inspection, that left rear rotor had warped slightly, possibly also due to uneven caliper pressure over time.

Solution: new rear rotors, calipers, and pads (on both sides), and a brake fluid change--all installed last night. Also installed new parking brake shoes and hardware while I was at it, which has made our parking brake functional again! Winning!

Hey all,

2003 Yukon Denali XL. 198K.

Heard a scratching/rubbing noise from the left rear wheel today.

Got home, removed the wheel to inspect. Got ready to remove the brake caliper and bracket, to inspect further. Then I noticed the two smaller bolts that tie together the caliper bracket and caliper WERE MISSING! Gone. Not just loose...they were not THERE. (All bolts on the right side were in place as usual.)

Went to Lowe's and got two M-8 1.25 25mm bolts to replace the missing parts.

Last time I worked on those brakes was one year ago. Zero problems since then. I have NEVER had this happen to any of our vehicles before.

I will likely never know what caused the bolts to disappear...but I am curious to hear your theories.

Anyone have any experience with this hitch?

I have had one for a couple of years. No problems, works well. However after a while the aluminum leaves a black deposit on your hands after installing or removing.

Aluminum leaving black residue is a common side effect of an untreated surface.
