Okay,

family is looking to buy a travel trailer in the 35-5200 lbs dry range. I have seen a few articles that suggest “moding” your car to better handle the stresses of towing frequently and long distances. I had a friend suggest going to a performance shop and having a power chip/transmission tune installed and tweaked as well as maybe stiffer springs in the rear to handle the weight.

Any other suggestions here?

thanks in advance.

Stay within the towing specs of your vehicle. Towing Companies and trailers are next to each other in the phone book for a reason :) LOL

Maybe I missed, but what specific vehicle are you talking about?

There are some things you can do to make towing a little more friendly. You might consider a performance tune which will unleash some more torque and horsepower from the motor and improve the performance of the transmission. You may consider deleting the transmission thermostat. If your Tahoe has the basic suspension, you can put Air Lift Springs inside the coils to reduce sag and firm up the rear a little. A good Weight Distribution Hitch will make your towing experience pleasurable too.
