Anyone know how to get the gear selection to work? I used to have it on my old phone but cannot get it working on the new one. This is for GMT900.

I am fairly well versed in the older pre-CAN system(s). Don't know doodley-squat about CANBUS.

I don't believe the "01" I add to PIDs applies to CANBUS ISO 15765-4 vehicles.

But maybe GM uses the same PID ## for both?

With the older Class 2 serial bus J1850VPW vehicles the common PID is 199A. So in apps like Torque Pro where we enter mode and PID together it would be 22199A.

But here also it might be necessary to add 01 after the mode and PID. (Torque Pro might add this for you in the background but it is faster to just do it yourself)

Other apps like OBD Fusion keep mode and PID separate. So there you could add "01" after the PID if you find it is needed to get the PID to work.

Example: Using a terminal app here I asked for 199A by itself and the PCM replies with a 7F response. I added the 01 at the end and got the reply I need. ( the "02" near the end means "reverse" )

And here is another twist.... If your IPC uses the Class 2 J1850VPW bus, in Torque Pro you can ask for the data without even using a "true PID" in the usual sense. It is possible to use Class 2 communications as defined in SAE J2178. So there you can likely get the "range position" that is sent from the PCM to the "PRND321" display of the IPC.

I really appreciate this but it is like when my wife is talking in Spanish. I know a word or two but the rest is Greek to me.

Missed your reply earlier Doug, current gear and I realized all your work was for the GMT800s and I'm trying this on my GMT900. Can't get the tire pressure sensors to work tonight.

From what I can tell your GMT900 has no Class II data so that about eliminates me from being of any assistance.

Current Gear is:

PID
22199A
Name
Current Gear
Gauge
Gear
Equation
A
Units
Min
Max
Header
Auto

This works on both my Tahoe and my Escalade, so I would expect it will work for you.

I have also worked out Selected Gear (PRND321) on the Tahoe. I haven't tested it on anything else, so don't know if it would work on the GMT900 or not. Let me know if that one is of interest, it is a bit more involved.
