I have a 2011 Denali. It has the tow hitch receiver and wire connection but no brake controller. What is the correct solution? Can I retro fit the OEM set up or do I need to get the bulky bolt on style controller that my knee hits getting in and out of the truck? Thank you.

I have a 2009 denali and yes I have the controller on the lower dash though I rarely hit my leg on it. I dont believe the denali comes with an OEM brake controller.

It was an option from factory, involves a lot parts wise incl. control unit on dash, master cyl, harness, relay, reprogramming ecu, etc... I'd just wire in an aftermarket unit and mount it as out of the way as you can. Way cheaper. Just a hassle to tap into power, ground, brake light switch, and your trailer connector neatly. My 04 came with a plug and play harness in the glovebox which just connected to the brake controller and an electrical panel by the pedals. Doubt the newer ones have that.

On my 2003, I recessed the controller into the dash board. It looked like a factory option when I was done. I don't see any locations I can do that on my 2013.

My 2006 denali xl has that same that same harness as well. Does that mean my truck has a factory brake controller already installed? If so where does that harness plug into and how do I use it? Still learning about this truck lol.
