A related question: Would GM have been using synthetic fluid in 2008? Does it mix with non-synthetic fluid?

I believe if you check your owners manual, it will call out Dexron VI (which I think is a synthetic blend), which is the latest iteration of the Dexron line. So if you buy the right ATF, it will be what came in it new.

It seems that there are different listings for AC Delco Dextron VI with different part numbers, some clearly stating synthetic and others not stating that. That's why i asked.
I have an old bottle on the shelf that does not state synthetic .

If it is Dexron VI it is fine.

I would always choose the synthetic choice if there is an option. I would also always choose the GM fluid over all other choices. It has gotten me this far, so why change now.

No. That’s my opinion.

A new filter and new fluid is the way to go, and any tech or DIY mechanic worthy of the name knows how to purge the remaining old fluid out the cooling lines.

Flush machines are a solution in search of a problem. Or more accurately, potentially creating problems.
Do I have to replace the seal or can I just stick new filter into it?

the 1st time I changed it, the 2nd time I stuck new filter into the ole one. Third time I'll change it again.
