The truck is a 04 Denali 4l65e 111k miles
Bought the truck with 102k mi last summer after about 3k mi the truck would not shift out of first until I took my foot off the gas. It only did this that one time. About 2k mi later during normal acceleration it would go from first to second with no problem but about 2 seconds after going into second it would go back to first then back to second. I ended up having a tranny fluid leak. (cracked line to trans cooler hose, ended up draining the trans to the bottom of the dip stick) got it fixed, problem went away. If you are keeping track close to 108k the tranny did it again this time it did not want to upshift and once it did it would do the 1st to 2nd, 1st 2nd thing again. Took it to the same shop who fixed the leak earlier. They found no problem w/ line pressure, no codes or anything. When the shop drove it around they could not get it to shift weird like it was with me at all. Now yesterday it was doing the 1, 2, 1, 2 shift again, woke up this morning and drove it around.. Back to shifting normal again. I never tow with the truck, and it never does anything I would consider to be a hard shift.

One thing I did notice though. I checked the tranny fluid and it is a good amount darker than my other vehicles I'll post a pic in a little..

So.. anybody ever had a similar issue? bc I'm stumped..

I fixed a box 3500 box truck once with the same sorta problem by replacing the small wiring harness for the valve body(solenoids) and shift solenoid B. The harness shorted out and fried the solenoid. I woulda sworn the tranny was done until I pulled the pan and found the damage. I worked great afterwards..

Thanks guys, hopefully replacing those components will fix my problem. Since shes going to be opened up anyway, you guys think I should have a shift kit or corvette servo installed as well?

I agree with lockner. I had the same issue. Solenoid harness failure is fairly common on 4L's. Got my parts from a local trans shop and cost me 110 dollars for all three solenoids, harness, filter and pan gasket, plus about 1.5 hours on my time.

Would it be difficult to do myself? I'm on vacation the next 6 days.. and I consider myself above average as far as repairs go..

Its very simple if you're only replacing the 1-2 and 3-4 shift solenoids. Just drop the trans pan, pull the filter straight down and the valve body is exposed. Then you will see the solenoid harness and solenoids right in front of your face. solenoids are just held in with a retaining clip. Pull the clip and they come sliding out. Now if you decide to do the 3-2 down shift solenoid, then it will get a little more difficult. You will have to drop the valve body. Its a little meticulous bc there are like 20 bolts and seven different lengths, half a dozen metal check valve balls, two gaskets and a spacer, and a very critical torque spec and sequence.

If it were me i would replace the harness, and two up shift solenoids. Worst case scenario you waste 20 dollars in trans fluid, 1-1.5 hours of you time going back in it a second time. JMO
