So I'm fairly new to GMs. I have a 2003 Yukon 4x4 With a NP 246 Tcase. I just picked it up for $2800. It has since developed a growl in either the front end or transfer case. When parked and truck off, I spin front driveshaft and it sounds a bit noisy. I've checked the fluid it's full but dark. As well as the front diff it's full but dark. It drives fine and switch's all 4x4 gears smooth and noise does not change in or out of 4x4. It seems to get louder under accel/ throttle load. Front end is tight and noise is only after 10-15mph. Could a Wheel bearing be a issue or CV axle? It sounds like its primary on the left side.

Welcome to the forum, from Oregon.

In 2wd and going straight, can you move wheel slightly left or right, does the noise get louder? Tire tread chopped?
Thank you, from Oklahoma.

No movement without the tires moving, steering is sight as heck. I just had tires put on Sunday. The ones that were on it had outside edge wear. Put it up on a jack a few mins ago. Spun tires no noise besides a slight break drag. And the noise does not get louder when turning. But does under acceleration, let off on the throttle it quiets a bit. Just a little note it has 176K on the clock. At stationary in park revving up it does not make noise.

I'm not saying this is the problem, but the specified fluid for that transfer case is AutoTrak II, which is blue in color. How dark is the T/C fluid, and does it look more like transmission fluid (reddish) or....

T/C drain and fill takes just under 2 qts.
