Yesterday my 05 Tahoe put up an emission code and would only run in third gear. Like an idiot I took it to my local dealer. They ran the code and told me it was a shifting solenoid and the code was p0756. Then they proceeded to tell me fixing the solenoid only fixes the shifting problem 1 in 10 times and they would most likely have to do some sort of tranny rebuild. I asked how much to do the solenoid and was told close to $600. I told them no thanks that I would come get it and take it somewhere else. After paying $100 for them to run the code I get in and drive off only to find it is now shifting perfectly and the emission light is off. Should I go ahead and have another shop fix the solenoid or wait till it messes up again?

I guess I was wanting to make sure it wasn't going to mess something else up if I didn't have it replaced now instead of later. What a pain.... At least I got a car wash for my $100 spent at the dealer.

I try to stay clear of dealerships bro. I know not all of them are the same but I have just had bad experiences as well as read of people having bad experiences with them. I would talk to a couple of repair shops that you trust and get them to give you their thoughts on what if any damage could be done. As well as costs.

Dude!! don't worry about it for now. Just get a Fluid and filter change...you probably have some debris or chips restricting oil flow......:)

Better yet, while they have the pan off have them clean 2-3 shift solenoid valve...
