Transmission level check

Anyone have any tips for checking the transmission level? I did a full fluid flush and filter.

I checked the dipstick after my drive home from work and it looked low. Added some fluid and now for the life of me can’t tell were it is on the dipstick.

I’m getting a lot of fluid on the dipstick but can’t tell the level. Neither hole appears “covered” but i have fluid higher, guessing its from adding some but can’t tell.

after adding fluid give it a few minutes to settle down the tube then check it again

There’s a specific procedure outlined in the owners manual. I don’t have a copy of it but it goes something like this: warm up the trans first by driving for awhile. Then start in park with the brake on and move through each gear letting it idle in each one for 10 seconds of so, then return it to park and leave the engine running while you check the level. Are you doing something similar to this? It can be s bit hard to see on the dipstick, try turning it to let light reflect off it.

Thanks, yes I followed the correct procedure. The issue I was having is I thought it was low so I added Fluid. Then rechecked it, then I thought I overfilled it because as you know you add it to the dipstick tube. I let it go for about 30 min and redid everything, then I was able to accurately read the dipstick.

There are cold and hot levels depending on the temperature of the fluid. If you cannot get her up to between 160-200 (6L80), then drive around in 4th gear until it reaches that temp and then do a hot check. A hot check is more accurate than a cold check.

Another thing to note, as the dipstick brushes the wall of the tube, you may get a higher reading on one side of the dipstick than the other.
Wipe it clean, insert into tube fully and pull within 1 second. Read BOTH sides of the dipstick quickly and use the lowest shown fluid level as your mark.
