So I noticed about a week ago the lower transmission cooler line was leaking on my 2004 tahoe Z71 5.3L, wiped away fluid and now today it's back again. Has anyone attempted to replace line before and if so is it easy. Looks kinda easy since it's the lower line on the transmission. Also how much fluid will I loose disconnecting the line at both ends?

Pretty easy. 1 hr max. You won't lose much fluid. maybe 1/4 quart max.

Get a nice big NEW oil drain pan to recycle the oil. Also, some cardboard for the mess. Easy if you have a lift. Not so easy 15 inches off the ground on your back. Time depends on preparation.

What do you need a "nice NEW oil drain pan" for. Most of the time it loses half a soda can out of the lines if you do a trans swap and he's only doing one. ? You do understand that changing trans lines is akin to changing an oil filter right? That is that the oil drained is what is already in them and unless the engine/trans is running running there is very little oil to be lost in either case.

It's just as easy on your back.

..and you do know that hes going to need a minimum of 1 quart. The nice big oil drain pan is to help alleviate the mess. By the looks of it...your truck seems to have a lift kit. His however, has a clearance of 8.4". How you view that as "easy" is beyond me. Even with a Craftsman 3.5ton speedy lift your looking at a max height of 22". The cardboard is common sense. 1 quart, drain pan, cardboard. Preparation is key.

So this was a kick my butt job! For one, the damn line part number 624-116 was not the right size! Both from Rockauto and AutoZone. So had to resend the line enough to get it to fit. Number two I dropped the C-clip up front and it disappeared! Searched for over an hour with mirror and all, Gone! Half a fortune later for a 10 pack of assorted C-clips and it's done. What's going to with the parts makers,Transmission oil cooler line did not fit or even come close, and steering gear box had a totally different part in the right box!
