I have a 2016 Yukon XL denali 4WD w/ 15,000 miles on it and my transmission is slipping when driving under speeds of 30 MPH. It slips so bad my husband thinks I've slammed on the brakes a few times. It's happening a few times a day. It's at the dealer for a clicking sound it's making during turning so I asked them to look at the transmission. They called me and told me it's a characteristics of the vehicle..... they said they will give me the print out when I pick it up. Anyone else having issues? Tips on what to tell the dealer? I don't think a $80,000 car should have the characteristics of a slipping transmission.

The transmission 'slamming' into gear at low speed is well known and should never be called a 'feature' by the dealership.

IIRC there is a transmission software update for our cars to address this, and some vehicles have had to have the torque converter replaced.

I'm going in for my annual service in a couple of weeks and bringing this to my SA's attention as my '16 also exhibits this behaviour.

They are giving you a story. Go to a different dealer or an independent transmission shop and pay for the independent shop to examine it. Contact General Motors directly and ask that they direct the dealer to repair the vehicle. Do not accept this obvious lie.

On another note, I have two GM vehicles that had a faulty battery, started fine, but had similar tranny problems. I changed out the battery, problem went away. You could try disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect. See if anything changes. I cannot explain why installing a new battery might have that effect, but today's computerized modules are more sensitive to poor quality electricity source.

8 speed transmission?

It's not a lie, it is a characteristic of the transmission. A bad characteristic.

1 thing that is vitally important if you go the independent shop route is that you make sure that the mechanic is clear on what his diagnostic process is. I had my transmission diagnosed and the mechanic pulled it out of my vehicle and wanted to charge me over $1k to put it back in without repairing anything or informing me that this is what he was going to do. So I was stuck working with them and could not get a second opinion. DO NOT GET SCAMED LIKE I DID!

Update- I picked up my car on Saturday and the transmission seemed better till this morning and they also gave me some paperwork about how to use the 4WD. Anyone heard of this? They said not to use it on the highway and if I need to use it while off roading to get it to go back into 2WD I need to back up 6-12 feet? Umm... I've had numerous 4WD vehicles and I've never heard of this. Are they having issues with the 4WD system? This seems crazy to me since it has a auto button I should be able to use it on the highway due to I drive in the carpool lane in California and our lanes always flood. I bought 4WD for a reason. But they said not to use it? Any help would be great!!

The new 8 speeds are having all kinds of problems. Keep checking back with the dealer to see if they have a new programing. I would like to see the paper work they gave you. I have not heard of this 4X4 issue.

Is it that feeling like you're coasting down from 40mph and you'll get a nasty downshift, feels like someone hit you in the rear

If so, I agree with others a very unfortunate characteristic with this tranny

I went with a tune, cleaned it up completely
