Didn't get a chance to sway to NOT replace the trans just yet but, you need scantool data, espescialy live date from the trans PIDS while shifting 2-3 and 3-4.

You need a great engine drivability / trans guy. This you may not be able to figure out without putting gauges on the transmission.

I did a search and found this old post. But i am having the same issue. My 2003 Tahoe is "slipping" or "flaring" from 2nd to 3rd gear. I guess its more of a flare as when its in gear it does not slip. 996 never said what fixed his flairing. I am wondering if changing the fluid, filter, and shift solenoid might solve my problem.

OH! and maybe, just maybe I should add that my Tahoe has 187,*** miles on it and it has never had the trans fluid changed. EVER! I am the original owner. As a matter of fact, it still has the factory plugs and wires. :sunot:

I am sure you were supposed to change your plugs at 100k. You will have check your owner's to be sure but typically vehicles not seeing commercial service did not recommend changing fluid unless the fluid get degraded some how. How is your fluid?

I dont know how it is. I have heard that at this point I don't want to do a flush as this may cause more damage than good. But rather remove the pan, filter, and change fluid. I can check the fluid to see if its degraded, but what am I looking for?

OK so nothing out of the ordinary. I Know my last couple of posts paint me as not mechanically inclined but I feel I am (even though i let my wife drive it all this time without a fluid change) I will check the fluid and get back to you. Appreciate the help. I am just hoping that it is something I can open up and replace.
