I've had this problem for a while took it in the dealer while the Tahoe had warranty said they couldn't find any problems. Now he said its normal for the truck to do this because of my driving habits (didn't make sense), where the transmission would hit really hard going from 2nd and 3rd. Coming to a complete stop sometimes you could feel the tranny drop. Took it the dealer again, now out of warranty so nothing they can do because it's out of warranty now they're blaming it on my after market battery. They said the Tahoe isn't compatible with a deep cycle battery. Wanted 900 to replace it and redo the wires. Declined the service and the advisor calls me back saying he would go down 10% then a week later 25%. I still declined and I went to run the codes myself. I'm getting p0700 p0716 p0717. Anyone have any ideas? Should I replace the speed sensor?

P0700 refers to the transmission control module.
P0716 & P0717 I think refer to the input speed sensor circuit...like no signal or circuit range. I think this sensor is inside the transmission.

Neither of these have anything to do with the battery BUT they were correct in saying the deep cycle battery isn't completely compatible with out charging systems. Cars with deep cycle batts stock (like some caddy's) have a slightly different charging system.

Either way, I don't believe they can't negate your warranty for that unless they can directly link the failure to the mod 100%.

Marc,

Hey I would respond to Jeniffers questions since she works for GM and claims she is willing to look into the issue and help you out anyway she possibly can.

Does it do it at all times or just when its cold?

How many miles do you have on your tahoe?

Have you changed the transmission fluid on it?

I would bring it to another shop that will look at it and give you a quote for free besides a dealer. Then bring that to the dealer and show them that it has nothing to with your battery.

I have ran 1-8 Optima Batteries on my vehicles before and I have never had an issue with my transmissions so I dont think it has anything to do with that.

Sounds more like thats there way of trying to get out of fixing the issue with your truck under a warranty so you can pay to fix it?

Where are you located?

If you are local I know some certified mechanics I could ask one of them to look at it for you at no cost.
