Transmission test port depth

So i just got this gague for my 97 Yukon's s trans temp and i am wondering if anyone has done this before because the gague comes with the sensor which goes into the transmission test port but the website also sells an adaptor to extend the depth of the transmission whole so that no moving parts brake the sensor off. I am wondering if our transmissions need it because i know jist a few do.

i would not use that port as a temp probe. it does not have a constant flow going across it to accurate reflect temp. you can either install on in the pan where the fluid floods it constantly and is always moving around or you can do the 0411pcm swap and in conjunction with a scangauge2 display it and other parameters on the display of it. it is a reading that needs to be programmed into the scangauge unit. the 96-97 see the temp from the internal tranny probe but can not output it to the unit directly. i think the 98+plus stock pcm's and of course the 0411 pcm can. the easiest for you might just to stick a probe into the the existing pan or grab a mag hy-tech pan with a fitting already in place to add sensor.

btw that extender was for use on dodge vehicle it said. i have to admit i do find it curious that internal tranny parts can break a temp sensor. regardless it is not an accurate temp monitor method using a pressure port.

Oh! I see, thanks alot for the response. I might just but the pan that has the port into it already so that i can get an accurate reading. Thanks alot! Yeah i saw that it was for dodges but just incase thought id ask incase :)

if you get that pan you also get the added benefit of a little bit of extra cooling and maybe some extra fluid capacity.

Can confirm, on my '99 I read it with my Edge Insight.

I run one on test port. It worked ok. For some. Reason it's acting up right now just havnt had time to diagnose it but betting it's probably a faulty connector in wiring
