Has anyone just taken the valence and caps off? That's what I'm thinking about doing

I thought about it but I actually take mine offroad and would hate to have all that dirt and mud in there. Also if you take them out the corners might get floppy - never tried it though.

Looks great!

Now that it has been a few months, how are you satisfied with those specific tires? They look great, what are they exactly? Getting decent mileage out of them?

Got a few requests to show the trimming of the front Z71 valence caps needed to fit 285/65/18 on stock wheels with 2.5" front level kit. The picture was from someone else fitting wider tires and the red line was where i trimmed ~2 inches.

They are Nitto Trail Grapplers and have about 40k miles on them. Could probably get another 5k, but will assess how they do this winter. I would buy them again, but this is now my wife's rig. Next set of tires might be Nitto Terras or Goodyear Duratracks. Trying to get better mpgs...

FYI originally put them on when they came out in 2009 (I think), and this recent thread was responding to *** regarding trimming.

Update. Have 49k miles now and still enough tread left, but since winter is coming these will be replaced. Deciding on sticking with these or an AT type tire (wife's rig now).

Bump. Seems like there are a few folks wondering about trimming.

I limit parking garages to at least 6'10" which is the opening of my garage. I can fit into 6'8" but it is pretty tight and those signs are not that accurate so I like to have a little wiggle room. I also have the roof cross bars.

Post pics when you are done :pimp:

Just seeing this. Exactly what I was wondering on a different thread. :sorrysign:

Is that 6'10" clearance with just your 2.5"/1" level kit or does that account for the additional lift from the air ride in the rear? Curious.

Thanks.

Accounts for the additional lift of the air bags, tires, and height with the roof cross bars. I use 6'10" for parking garages because those signs are not accurate.
