I've determined to put another $8k into my Tahoe on a supercharger just isn't genius. I'd rather put that money into the new toy coming this fall (2012 Wrangler Rubicon). However I still have the itch for a little more something in the power section of the Tahoe.

The truck is a dog off the line, kinda. If I just half press the throttle it barely chugs up to speed. If I mash the throttle it feels like it I drop back down to 1 and take off. So my question. Do these trucks start off the line in 2nd gear? That can't be. Those with a tune does the off the line performance kick up severely? I'm not looking to be a guy drag racin all over town but I just want more push from a dead stop. I thought maybe it's my gearing. What do these trucks come with and how do i tell what I have 3.42/3.73? Maybe kick that up to 4.10s with a tune? How much mpg loss would be associated with that? I really could care less about top end or truthfully any performance past 60mph.

Yea a tune will help a LOT! dont buy a handheld, just look in the vendor section to the right. Very nice people to deal with and works like a charm. Also gears will help, but you might end up losing some MPGs on the freeway.

a LOT better/firmer shifting with the BB Tune when I had the 08 Tahoe 5.3L... you'd enjoy it and it's def 250 well spent.

What year is your truck, which engine do you have, and which transmission? As far as stock final drive, search for an RPO finder based on VIN.

In any case, the BB tune would be your best bet. It would be costly to change the gears (2WD or 4WD?). Based on your original post, it sounds like you do not want to spend that much; a gear change is ~$2k for both axles (unless you can DIY).

Assuming basedon lack of information, you have a 5.3 2WD tahoe /yukon.

Stage 1, cheap and easy.

Drop in a LS6 cam, springs and pushrods.. you can get all 3 for under 250$
Drop in a Trailblazer SS torque convertor 150$ new.
pull gears from a 4x4 tahoe of same year. $$??
Drop in a magnaflow muffler. 150$
drop in a Specter CAI, 150$
Get a Tune. 250 from BBT inperson.

Enjoy the dramatic increase in power across the board, and a strong launch.
For under 1k.
If you have a 6.0, skip the cam and spring combo, and drop in the TSP combo and convertor below.

Want more,
Enter stage 2,
Drop in a standard issue cookie cutter 220/220, .588/.588, 114, +4 cam from Texas Speed.
Along with patriot springs and a set of new pushrods.
Grab a Circle D 3k Torque convertor.
Install Shit kit along with vette servo.
Magnaflow and Specter CAI.
LPP headers.
BBT.
4.11 gears with a detroit locker.

Now you have a launch that will ROAST damn near any tire you run out back, Both at idle a 30 punch and probly make them sing going into 3rd.

Both of those are proven combinations, that are on thousands of trucks and Suv's.

Want more beyond this, install a 150shot on a progressive controller.
Or buy a forced induction system...

your in the next of woods where there are some fast trucks already. Cam, stall, headers and gears....huge gains.

Good advice on guys in the area if you've not done a cam change.
