Sts turbo

Hey Guys,
I just picked up an '04 4.8 w/ 32,*** miles 2 weeks ago. Small motor, but the right miles. Anyway, never owned a chevy before, but a deer on the last day of deer season totalled my other vehicle and pushed me to get a new-to-me SUV. The Tahoe seems to be the right choice and I've been really happy with it. I too have been looking for a good/inexpensive system to perk her up a bit. I've found various possibilities, but one that has caught my eye for ease of installation and efficiency is by a company called STS ( Squires Turbo Systems) It appears to be a relatively easy install for the shade tree mechanic. Price isn't great, but it's average from what I can tell. It keeps underhood temps down since the Turbo sits under the vehicle. It also cools the intake charge since the intake pipe also runs under the vehicle to the intake. I also like the fact that even driving it hard, it likely wouldn't have to be cooled for 5-10 minutes before shut down. (as much fun as installing an idle control system is =-) That's about all I know about it. There are some vid's on the net of Tahoes & Silverados running it. It appears to be incredible! I haven't read any evidence about the drawbacks of this particular system other than just trash talk/opinions of some guys who didn't provide any real factual proof against it. I've had a turbocharged vehicle and this appears to remove the drawbacks of that car.

I'd be open to any other opinions of those guys who have systems or have a knowledge of comparable or better systems at a reasonable price that installs as easily.

Ive ran STS on a couple of things here, installs can be easy but you do need to have some know how, most of the ls guys stick to super chargers but STS does make the best kit now there was another company called W2W but I think there gone now, They flipped the passanger side header and mounted the turbo to it

If you can find one the best would prolly be the Wheel 2 Wheel kit. It uses the stock manifolds by inverting them, and everyone knows the most expensive part of a turbo kit is the manifolds. I dont think W2W is in business anymore but if you can find one, I would go with that.

KBracing and Trick both make good kits for front mount systems. Check out www.performancetrucks.net for more info, there are quite a few people running all types of induction on these trucks over there.

These motors from what I read on other sites from guys putting them in older camaros are boost monsters. The bottom end is rock solid and the stock compression ratio makes it perfect for boosting. I would say all stock bottom end with a tune you could probably get away with 9-10lbs of boost if not more with no problems. If I'm wrong please let me know.

$2500 - $4500 depending on new, used, and the associated components.
