Is there a way to disable carplay without disabling hands-free calling? It's really annoying when my radio shuts off when my wife or kid starts playing games or videos on their phones.
Yes, you can NOT connect the phone via carplay, and only pair it via Bluetooth. Simply unpair it (go to phones menu and delete it), re-pair it via BlueTooth, and decline the CarPlay connection.
That said, I am not quite understanding the issue you describe. I am not sure you really need to disable Car Play.
If your phone is connected via carplay, the other phones in the vehicle should have zero impact on the system.
And, if you have a source on the head unit selected that is not "CarPlay" you should have no interruptions.
Perhaps describe your setup a bit more and we can try to assist:
Which phones have been paired to the infotainment?
What is the connection priority of the paired phones?
How are you connecting the phones (wireless car play, or wired?)
What do you mean your "radio shuts off" when your wife or kid starts playing videos?
If your wife's phone is paired for CarPlay and connected to the infotainment, then yes, if she picks up the phone and starts messing w/ the audio on it (playing a video) then you are going to get that audio via the infotainment system. Likewise if a call or txt comes in to her phone, it will get pushed to the infotainment. If
your phone is connected via CarPlay, her phone should have zero interference.
In my vehicle, my phone is set to connect first if there are multiple phones in the car. If both my wife and I get in, my phone connects to the infotainment, and hers is happily independent of everything.
You can always hit the phones menu and select which of the paired phones you want connected to the infotainment system.
