I see that the upper control arm comes with an attached ball joint. I also see that I can buy the ball joint separately.
I therefore wonder if the ball joint I have on my truck now can be removed from the control arm? Or do I have to buy a control arm with the ball joint already attached?

The ball joint can be removed from the control arm with a press. They are pressed in verses bolted or rivited in. Depending on the prices of the control arm with ball joints, you may want to save yourself some trouble and get the whole control arm.

Changed the ball joints today. But what a job!
So next time I want that press. But where can I buy one? What is that press called?

It's called a ball joint press. You can get away with renting on from any parts store. I bought mine from Snap On tool and it's there master kit. I paid right around $650 for it but worth every penny
