I put the exact one you showed in mine, and I love it, it gives me 'turbo power' on my phone and no other outlet has, I have had 3 in my Yukon now... the only complaint is, the blue light on the voltmeter is too bright.

I replaced my cigarette lighters all with USB charging front and back plus added a voltage gauge. They are all hard-wired in as far as radio integration I have a portable hard drive in my glove box and I put the USB running into the back of the radio with music and movies. This way I could take it out and add more anytime I want to. Don't mind the voltage gauge read out I was testing with 9 volt battery lol.

It replaces the cigarette lighter piece entirely. View attachment 240081
Super easy install. Clip the factory pigtail off the back of the cigarette lighter, and splice in the two wires from the USB port, and it’s ready to roll with power. Only thing I had to do was widen out the plastic bezel that the cigarette lighter fits into in the dash bezel. The USB port I bought was just slightly larger in diameter than the cigarette lighter. But an extra few minutes with a file took care of that.

I made sure I found one with no LED’s since our power port and cig lighter are always hot. cig Lighter one is from radio, power port is dual usb power only.

It’s never killed the truck battery. But I turn it off when I’m not using. I can’t imagine it would kill the truck battery as long as the battery is good since that port is always hot and pulling power anyways the way it’s setup from the factory.

As someone who's considered doing something like this but didn't it turns out I'm glad I didn't jump in at first. Phones are going to USBC including Apple. Yes you can plug in a USB cable with a USBC end on it but you get more power to quickly charge things with a pure USBC port.

Second I was thinking of including a relay and small lighted push button to turn power on and off to the port whatever I put in. Of course the light is only a tiny LED and only on when the button and port are on. It would be possible to find a feed for the radio that is switched and use it to trigger the relay as well. Wiring that should be a snap because you already have a hot lead and the radio is right there... For things that might want to be always on like a dash cam setup you could also include a push button to leave it on BUT you would want to be careful about backfeeding the radio. A simple diode would do it.

My port has an LED light on it that’s only on when the port is turned on and I’m using it. When I turn it off the light shuts off. And it’s blue so it matches my gauge cluster.
