Used Escalade or New ‘25 Yukon /Tahoe/ Suburban?

There are issues with both. The key is having Plan B for the vehicle you choose. I’m referring to a CPO vehicle or a new vehicle with extended (factory) warranty (not a service contract).

Lastly, make sure the dealer you purchase from will supply a loaner if / when you use that warranty.

Nobody can choose their fate but you can choose the solutions to the fate you may encounter. Labor, diagnostics and parts costs are the killers these days. If you’re covered on the vehicle you really love, then it’s a win.

Well.... being covered under warranty certainly is important, but who wants to drive a vehicle that first of all... can leave you stranded at any given moment, and second of all could be out of service for weeks or longer and have the same fix put in it that could leave you stranded a second time?

We take trips often with our vehicle that take us hundreds and hundreds of miles from home and that is one worry that I absolutely cannot have hanging over my head when we are out of town and have limited resources to deal with these issues.

What’s the big problems with the 6.2? I’ve been looking forward to getting that engine.
It is lovely and strong and sounds great. But yeah, major POTENTIAL issues with it (supposedly in a certain VIN range).

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that mine holds up. But I'm also going to have a serious conversation with the dealership about it next time I have it in for service.

I'm ordering a 25' Yukon AT4 as soon as I can with production starting on October 7th. As I read the posts it seems like every 6.2 motor has issues but I don't hear of a nationwide engine replacement campaign by General Motors so I will take my chances and order the 6.2 for mine. General Motors seems to learn from their mistakes and if they have a 50% engine failure rate as this forum seems to imply it makes sense to fix the problem instead of paying dealers to fix it for them. I cannot say the same for Ford their vehicles seem to continue the same issues year after year.

Can’t explain how or why anyone would want to or get a vehicle that doesn’t work or have to be serviced. It’s really not a choice anyone has, no matter what’s purchased.

Even if he bought a Kia, the same still flies. Any vehicle can be a lemon.

1st: Suggesting that someone purchase an extended warranty is prudence.

2nd: What’s left over is just conjecture and opinions about what may happen.

Traded our 09 LTZ for a 21 Escalade Platinum 3.0 Duramax. Love it, sad Cadillic is dropping the Duramax for 2025. I would go for the Suburban with the Duramax.

Yep, I was seriously going to look at an Esky for 25 or 26, but with no Dmax that is a hard no. Just seen this week in our area they are stretching the margin on premium to +1.20 a gal from a dollar. What's to stop them? Saw 2 stations today that were 3.49 RUL and 4.69 Prem...... Diesel 3.79....

One of the best things about the 6.2l is that you can get 20mpg with surfboards on top going 80mph. I also get 12mpg towing 6,500lb boat on flat highways.

On a 10 mile section heavily police patrolled road that is big part of my driving I usually put the cruise control on 50 mph, the posted limit and I have gotten up to 27mpg.

Plus when you go on throttle you can drop most cars and definitely most trucks like a prom dress.

Out of hundreds of thousands of 5.3/6.2 gas models sold each year there are actually very few failures. Enjoy one of the few amazing V8 engines available now, as the trend is going to smaller turbo charged girly man motors . As Seinfield would say “not that there is anything wrong with that!” Some manufacturers like Toyota and Lincoln program sound so that the smaller 6 cylinder sounds more like a real V8.

One of the best thing with the 3.0 Duramax is it 75mph I am getting 30+ mpg, 80mph it drops to 27mpg, around town 22 to 24mpg. Can't beat that!!!!! Especially with the price of premium fuel!

I will say I have loved the 6.2L since I bought a 2007 in 2011. Henceforth I still get wood when driving.......My 2008 has an awesome growl, my 2017 is more subdued, but will go like it's pants are on fire when commanded. Hopefully the issues get resolved and you too can enjoy pure American muscle.
