Gas mileage is down a little bit, I reckon it's because we aired down the tires some to wear more evenly.
Anyhow, playing around with an excel calculator, it was determined that a 31 gallon tank with 8 gallons of E85 on board and the rest 93 octane fuel should yield an octane rating of 96 and an alcohol percentage of about 20%.
So I pumped in 8 gallons of E85 and 18 gallons of Sunoco 93 and the alcohol percentage settled down to 20%. Existing Mobil 93 was at 2%. I hammered it at a light and the trusty Tech-2 said there was 5 degrees of total knock retard still! Go figure.
Running with that mix is about $5 less per tank than a typical 93 fill at current prices. After this little experiment I'll run Unleaded 88 which is E15 plus some E85 which should come out around 91 octane (if starting with 93) and a 21% alcohol content. At current prices this mixture would give the benefits of 93 while saving $18 per tank of fuel.
She's finally been claybarred and waxed and shampooed after a long spell. Changed the front differential fluid and transfer case and the rear and transmission are next. Then on to installing those drag reduction clips on the rear brakes some other things as opportunities arise with the coming cool weather, finally!
The painted buntings are back!
