Using Dexron VI instead of Dexron III

Doing the fluid change on my transmission for the first time ever. 287k miles.

The fluid it takes is Dexron III, but can I use Dexron VI since that's all that I can find at auto part stores? I've been told they're compatible

I got the full synthetic both times I replaced my transmissions. If you’re not doing a complete change as in replacing the trans I would get the blend since that’s what’s in it from the factory as in DexIII.

That’s why I’m here, to see if “should” works out for you. Mines 191k and I doubt the PO changed it.
