E85 is a scam. MPG drops 25% and it costs the same per gallon, if not more.

Not a scam, but a tradeoff and personal decision if your ride can use it. Lose a few mpgs for typically less cost/gal and higher octane. If there's not a significant difference between premium price and E85, then it's probably not a good deal. But it still has its place where it makes sense.

yes, ethanol/alcohol fuels are corrosive and absorb water. which is a good reason it really shouldn't be in our normal gas. e10/15 in older cars and small engines. plus cause you store over the winter is a hassle.

but e85 in the correct application is amazing. Comparable gasoline would be $10 a gallon or more

if you've got the old style valve cover, you need to update that since it's the cause of most of the oil use. cleaning rings can't solve a hardware problem. but I'm looking forward to your results.
You nailed it with the valve cover causing the problem (oil consumption) see TSB: https://f01.justanswer.com/ebrock63...il+Consumption,+MIL+ON,+Engine+Runs+Rough.pdf
@the blur
did you change the driver side valve cover to the new improved design?????
as I said previously, the quik fix is to also do a combustion chamber/piston soak.

Valvoline R&P says it takes 4 normal oil change intervals to cleanup piston deposits. IIRC they don't say anything about unsticking piston rings.

Valvoline does sale a oil specifically designed to clean piston rings - Valvoline Premium Blue "Restore" 10w30, available "only" at Cummins dealers for $80/gal, pt# CA877377GA.

I have used a mix of VPB"Restore" in 3 of my daily drivers. I am currently using a 33% mix of it in our 07 Denali L92 w/200k miles that doesn't consume any oil. I fixed that problem 6+ yrs & 70k miles ago by doing the TSB ds vc & combustion chamber/piston soak over a weekend. I'm using the VPB:Restore" to further cleanup the mess (carbonous deposits) in the engine left behind from the abuse of the previous owner & GMs poor original valve cover design.
