Vehicle won't call 911 in a crash without OnStar

OnStar doesn't call 911. It calls OnStar who then calls emergency services with your exact location and other details (like you're talking to them, or not, if the car is in water, etc.).

I sent smoke signals but had to pay to use someone else's fire and blanket. Running over that boulder with the wagon sure messed up that wagon wheel. No way I was making it back home for supper before ma and pa would start to worryin'.



You youngsters are really taking this entitlement thing a bit too far. If you want it, pay for it. Sheeeesh!

Onstar has operated as a paid service since it started over a decade ago. I don't recall it ever calling 911, as the previous poster said it calls Onstar, who in turn calls local emergency personnel based off of GPS positioning. Also I have never seen GM advertise anything that would leave anyone to think the vehicle would call 911 on its own.

I can see how OnStar would be worth it for the old timers because of the operator's ability to help with directions... don't have to use that old Mapsco anymore =)
