Vette Servo

So I got my new vette servo and had a couple questions as i'm itching to get this in.

I usually do all the work to my car but due to some horror stories about cracked trannies, blowing, and all fluid leaks I would rather spend the money and not worry about anything. So far ive been to three shops and quoted from 96-285$! I know it shouldn't be this high right? Also, a shop gave me a # of a mobile mechanic and specialist who said he can do it for 70$. Do I trust that, or should I steer clear?

Also, should I replace my boost valve? Thanks!

I would find a lsx race shop to do it IMO...Where are you located?? I can help you find one..

I would say if it's a reputable tranny shop then you should be good. Your highest bid of 285 is probably excessive but if it was me I wouldn't have a problem with forking over 120 or so...

ya i went with a Higly recommended Trans shop. I also had them do a trans filter and fluid change while i had it done.

Sumo, did you notice a noticeable performance improvement with your tranny when you did it?

It's really not that difficult to do yourself if you just take your time and double check everything. The reason why people have horror stories is because they're not careful and they don't install it correctly. It's nothing too advanced...there's a good writeup or two on GMFS somewhere. I took my time, had pictures to look at, double and triple checked everything, and it still took less than an hour for me to do.

You really just have to make sure you get the lock ring put back in place when you're finishing up. It's kind of a pain, but obviously, it's doable.

If you take it somewhere to have it installed, don't let them charge you for anything more than 1 hour of labor. That's plenty of time to get your truck in the shop, get it up on a lift, do the work, and get it back down.

Thanks 2ELO, thats what I was looking for. One shop was beginning to tell me they had to drop the tranny and disconnect the cats etc almost 400$. Just unbelievable.

wow!! either they don't know what they are doing, don't want the work or are trying to screw you!

i did mine at home laying in my drive way...took me about 1 1/2 hour and like 2ELO said its all about getting that snap ring back in correctly....i think that was about 45 min - 1 hour of the time it took!

It does make a very noticeable firmer shift, especially the 1-2 shift
