Fuel gauge wanders and vibrates constantly. Is there a fix or is it just the sending unit?

Common issue on the OBS trucks its probably a bad gauge the stepper motors going are pretty common, mines done the same thing for years, even after doing a fuel pump and sending unit

Yep same. I've just learned to always refuel after 300 miles regardless of the gauge. Normally when it's all the way on E, and even slightly past. I still have at least 3 gallons left though.

These trucks have a 30 gallon fuel tank I'm told. And at 300 miles I fill up with 20 gallons. And that's on empty on the gauge. So should have another 10 gallons

unknown at this time.
the 98-99 run the fuel level sensor thru the pcm so it is not uncommon to see the pcm output causing the issues. the dampening fluid in the gauge dampens it out. for 97 and earlier unit the vibrating is likely cause from ac ripple in the voltage from weak diodes in the alternator. or something to that effect. in regard to the wondering, in all years the 4 dr tank or narrow side to side and long from front to back with no baffling so wondering will always be there. 2dr are more square boxier so they are no as bad.
