I had the Viper 5701 2 way alarm/remote start unit installed a little over a year ago. Everything worked great until the last month or so. When I transmit a signal to my truck, the remote flashes the "no communication" error lights instead of lighting the appropriate LED to indicate status. It still locks/unlocks/starts, but the 2 way system seems to not be working. When I try to use the function button to receive alarm status or temperature, it also flashes the "no communication" lights. I could deal with this issue, except, when remote starting from a distance, I have no idea if the control box received the signal or not.

I have changed the batteries in the remote, and it still does the same thing.

Anything else I can try? The remote does occasionally receive a response back from the control unit, but this is probably less than 5% of the time. I really don't want to try and remove the unit and see if they will ship me a new one under warranty. I had it installed by a professional and had absolutely no idea what I am doing with the wiring.

Usually you can unplug the main harness from the control unit for a couple seconds to reset the unit to fix this problem. I have a lot of customers come in with the same issue and I just reset the unit and it works fine afterwards.

Thanks for the response!

If I unplug that and plug it back in, will I need to reprogram anything? Also, just so I can prepare, will the alarm go off?

Do you have the smartstart option for your smartphone (if you have one) ? You can eliminate the need for a two way remote totally. It's a costly upgrade but I think it's worth it, check it out on vipers site...

I do have a smartphone, but not the smartstart. My installer was telling me about the service. Seemed pretty sweet, but there was a monthly/yearly charge that I don't know how much I care for.

I think it's a charge per lockout incident... I've been thinking about it myself, just picked up my 03' Denali xl today. Love it, just need rims, sub, amp, remote start/alarm and cai and catback or muffler.... LOL!!!
