Ok, so to do this mod, I should be looking at buying the spacer, buying the mpfi spider replacements, and be prepared to buy flexable fuel lines. Anything else you guys can think of?

I still think that this is a good idea. It's a cheap addon. Now I'm going shopping for parts.. HAHA I still have to install the other parts that I've purchased, but that's another story!

BTW, I love this place. Ask a question, get an answer!

Yea I may still do it but not untill I am ready to everything at once. So I am x2 to his post about what all should and needs to be done when adding this.

99Yuk...yes - one for the plastic intake(upper manifold)/spacer and one for the spacer/lower manifold. I actually received several identical manifold gaskets in my kit - guess they were expecting down the road replacement.

You don't HAVE to replace the spider assy... I just figured I might as well since my spider had been touched previously (had a shop do the intake gasket replacement the first time). I'd read that the poppets on the OEM spider have a tendency to become brittle, get stuck, and break when working in that area. I'm glad I had the part on hand because mine definitely fit that description. Not to mention, I now have a new spider under there doing the tasks more efficiently and effectively.

You don't have to replace any fuel lines either... I'm still running the factory ones. It would definitely be easier to replace the hard lines that connect to the spider assy with flexline/fittings though. I re-bent mine to make it work.

Cool, thanks! I think that I'm going to replace the spider assembly when I'm in there anyways. Just found a link to buy it. Posted it in another thread.
I'll hold off on buying the flexable lines then, unless I really need them.

So far, I have only found one place to buy this spacer;
http://performanceparts.com/part.php?partID=600743
I think that I"m going to email that guy that was mentioned and see where I can buy it from in Canada, and if not then where can I buy it from in the States.

Vmax Pics

Here is a few pics of the VMAX spacer install when I replaced my motor.

The spacer with new injectors

This is where the fuel lines end up with the spacer on... right in front of the dist cap!

Bend the fuel lines. This doesn't show the nightmare of trying to actually get them in this location from underneath.

All done. Now the wires run under the lines.

Seeing that the volume of air going into the cylinders is measured by the mass air flow sensor, and the volume of air going into the manifold is restricted by the intake tube diameter and throttle body, and all of these factors are before the spacer in the intake system, this spacer seems pointless and it seems like a waste of 300 dollars that could be used for something like a Black Bear tune, where performance gains are proven.

Just my opinion.

The VMax Spacer reduces the obstruction associated with the spiders in the intake...thereby effectively increasing available air volume. Have a great evening. :D

Dyno numbers I don't have, but I've stated my observations above.

your not changing the shape or size of the spider assembly, so it is still the same restriction, and you are still limited to how much air can go into the plenum by the throttle body, so in theory you are putting the same amount of air into a bigger space, reducing the air pressure going to the cylinders. And if you ever look inside of the plenum, spacer or not, the air still has to pass over and thru the spider assembly, so therefore, it does not seem to me in any way that this spacer can increase performance. You'd never catch me with this thing on my vortec. I'm not trying to cause an argument by any means, just adding my two cents for a second opinion.

No argument here...I know what your saying... it's the same thing I've been hearing about throttlebody spacers on a vortec.. This stuff isn't supposed to work on multiport fuel injection systems because there is no fuel in the air to mix better. (I know, OEM is Central Injector poppet system, but really it's like a MPFI)

But that being said, there has to be some 'magic' in there somewhere, because the guys who have bought this spacer are all reporting something extra in the seat of their pants, here on this forum and FSC. (And it ain't warm and brown!)
http://www.fullsizechevy.com/showthread.php?225996-Vmax-Manifold-Spacer-amp-New-5.7-Vortec
http://www.fullsizechevy.com/showthread.php?138165-Anyone-tried-the-Vmax-manifold-spacer-on-OBS-5.7
And the best running theory that we have to explain that 'magic' is that the spacer gives an extra inch of air space around the existing air flow restrictions. ie. fuel meter regulator, the fuel lines themselves, the injectors, etc. , thus reducing air flow restrictions, thus increasing the volume of air passing through the intake, which is a good thing.
I read the Delphi MPFI spider replacement installation instructions, and they say the fuel injectors on some ports are very close to the air inlets. I'll bet this spacer helps reduce those air flow restrictions and then some to boot, resulting in the seat of your pants 'magic'.

So for ~$300, I think I'm going to try it.

If somebody had a legitamate dyno chart from a 5.7 vortec with just one of these things, no other mods, that shows a true 20hp and ft. lbs., I would seriously consider changing my opinion.

99Yuk, glad your going to try something out for us, report back and let us know if its worth the 300 big ones. :)
