Alright guys so I ordered the Volant Cold Air Intake with the dry filter and box. It came in today.

Have a few things to say about this kit. First of all, the directions ******* suck moose ****. Fortunately I am mechanically inclined (used to race a bob-tailed bronco. fixing it was a constant) and figured out what was what and what went where. Overall not too complicated in the first place.

The couplers included with the kit that join the air intake tube to the throttle body are too short, or the hold down screws aren't long enough. Had to **** around with them for a while to get it right. The tube base has slots in it for the three screws. The flat washers supplied with the kit aren't large enough so they tip into the slots when you tighten the screws. Unless you get horizontal while tightening, you are screwed (no pun intended) as the washers will tip into the slot on one side or the other.

The neoprene sleeve that fits between the MAP and the intake tube is about two inches to short. Even scooting out the other flexible connections as far as I dared (trying to make length) still wasn't enough. So now I've got to go buy a hose or a sleeve long enough to insure no leaks. What the ****!

Results. The entire job took about an hour and a half (included disassembling the factory box). Not bad. At start up, I immediately could tell the idle was smoother by about 50%. Acceleration at take off, about a 50% improvement. Smoother, faster. I am a walking scinic and an overall general ***** guys, so I'm not imagining this.

I am hoping somebody from Volant reads this. They have a great kit, but definitely needs some tweaking.

Don, I believe it is worth the money. I wanted an enclosed system so K&N was out for me. I'd be worried all the time that water or something else (like my mice) would get into the filter box and intake. They'd managed to make a nest in the stock air box so wasn't going through that again.

I drove my buggie to work this morning. Definetly a change in engine response, etc. Acceleration is improved. I'll get a longer sleeve today and maybe some longer couplers so I don't worry. I filled the tank with gas to. See what happens. Other than my rants, good system and worth the money.

being as how the stock air box was a closed unit like the volant don't you think a mouse could still nest in there unnoticed as well unless you took it apart occasionally. Also if you got water in a k&n intake you are sure as hell going to suck it thru the venting going thru the fender especially with a sealed box.

Solved one problem. Was able to push entire intake tube and map sensor together and use the factory hose that ran from the factory tbi plenum to the map. it was a close fit but it works.

No more mice in my rig! I got a gun ;).

Sound like your intake is more trouble then it is worth. If you have to use the OEM ducting that defeats the purpose:imo:

You got pics of this work yet?

Only using one piece of factory ducting. Actually its inside diameter is a bit larger than what the sleeve is. I received an email from autoanything.com, where I purchased the unit. They were contacted by Volant, whom is sending me the proper length sleeve. Can't say enough good about autoanything. Volant needs to evaulate its quality control procedures. But I am still very pleased with the CAI. Now to chart the mpg.

i think you could see if a mouse was in it doesnt volant have a clear plexiglass piece on top so you can inspect the filter without taking the box apart?

I say just install a little wheel in there too and at least give the mouse something to do while he's living there
