Hey Folks,

Okay, so I ordered my new water pump and it looks like 1A sent the one with metal gaskets and such. This is fine, but I have never dealt with metal gaskets. I am a big fan of RTV silicone and such and put it on for extra insurance. Is it wrong to do that with these? Also, where they are metal do I need to torque them a special way? I am new territory for me.

Thank you!

Hmm good question. Just thinking out loud, my initial thought is that it's metal to expand and contract together with the pump equally during heat up and cool down cycles. Also thinking since water is involved and not oil/air, that could be a factor as well. I'm curious what the pros have to say

I'm no expert but I'd put a little dab of silicone on each side of the metal gasket before installation. Can't hurt, just a dab.

They can be installed wet or dry, they are designed to be installed dry with the oring for the seal....and reusable (within reason).
