Well if you turn the ignition and nothing happens, no noise no dimming of interior lights or head unit turning off for a second, I would look at an ignition switch. I am sort of baffled on why the jumper cables worked though, that makes it seem more like a battery issue.

The ignition switch is what I was thinking but a guy recommended looking at the solenoid connections to see if the second battery gave enough arc to jump the loose connection. But it recently happened and I tried the jumping method and nothing. So I was wondering if it could be my key wearing out??? I don't know I'm stumped checking connections now will get back but really don't want to spend 140 for ig switch if that's not it

Ok no loose wires.... But I did notice that my voltage meter was at a 9 when it wouldn't do anything this afternoon and when it does start its at a 11 or 12 so I'm wondering if you guys might think the positive wire is corroded or burnt up? I am still at a loss??

Where are you checking your voltage? How old is the battery? How do the wires look, can you see any greenish white powder by any of the connections?

I was reading it from my dash for the voltage. I checked the wires but they look fine. No corrosion on the posts. The battery is a year old maybe a bit older. I'm losing my mind on this one. It's so inconsistent. It can go a day without doing it 2 or do it then a few hours later do it again. The crazy thing is it did it right after I did a top end seafoam clean and never did anything like this before. I revved my engine to run the crap out afterwards went to the station and its been doing it randomly ever since. It's starts immediately with no hesitation then when it decides to screw up there is nothing from the engine when I turn the key. No click no dim no hesitation and Everything else works fine.

Ok this may be retarded but I checked the Ign fuses and they were fine. But I went through them one by one to see if pulled it gave me the same scenario as when this stupid crap happens. As I was pulling them I noticed a slight corrosion on the fuses. I pulled a 20a fuse from under the hood and it was really pretty corroded tried to start the truck and got the same response all power no start. So I'm wondering if this could be the reason that it starts most of the time but occasionally won't. Also I'm wondering if this is the reason that when it was jumped it immediately kicked over. Instead of having a loose wire that the current arced over when a second battery was connected, it was the fuse. What do you think?

Just remember corrosion is like rust, it spreads to everything it can. I would replace the fuse first, but look under the fusebox to make sure you don't have bigger problems developing.

Ok I am pretty sure I figured it out. I have been having a problem with my stereo where it would turn on but with no audio. I would turn the hoe off then back on and boom I get sound. So I figured out the radio amp fuse is right next to the ign fuse that I thought was the problem. Both were corroded. They are right on the edge of the junction box. I pulled relays and found no corrosion so I'm thinking my problem is right along that edge and water has seeped in over time and affected those fuses. So I'm pulling everything, cleaning and sealing. Thanks for the help! I hate electrical crap!

Cleaned the junction box and replaced the fuses. Started fine for a week then today out of the blue same problem. Anyone think it could be the lock cylinder? Or should I just bite the bullet and replace the ign switch?
