I replaced each of the evaporator system parts one at a time because of a P0449 (I think) code. Replacing the purge valve and purge solenoid cleared the code (with reset help from Advance Auto).I bought my 2008 ltz about a month ago, I’m getting a pending dtc that eventually just turns into a dtc, p0455
(Large Evap system leak) gas cap is tight seal in it looks good. Now the weird part is I can’t just pump gas. Every couple dollars you hear a sputtering sound almost like air is going in then in a couple seconds It cuts the pump off. So it’s taking forever to pump. Is this a common issue? Is there a fix that’s not gonna kill my wallet? Could this be why I’m only getting around 12 mpg?
Then, I starting having the fuel fill problem where I could only pump a pint or less before the nozzle would shut off. It was taking forever to fill the tank. I then replaced the vapor cannister which cured that problem.
Since then I occasionally get a “tighten fuel cap” message which persists despite replacing the fuel cap. I suspect a hose leak or a leak at one of the fittings.
These are all very easy replacements that I did lying on my garage floor without even jacking it up. As mentioned above, remove your spare tire for easier access. Watch YouTube videos that show all the steps because there is a trick to separating the hose connections, which are a PITA. I ended up cutting off the nipples on the canister with an oscillating tool just to remove the hoses.
Lots of loose carbon balls, like little BB’s will likely pour from the canister and roll all over the floor. If that’s the case, the line from the canister is likely clogged with the pellets and must be cleared. I won’t say how I sucked all the pellets out of my hose because I realized how dangerous that was with the gas fumes.
The parts are fairly inexpensive. I would replace all 3 at the same time if I were to do it again. It’s easier to change the purge solenoid when the canister is off the vehicle.
