Every now and then, there will be a vibration type noise that comes from my steering column. If I had to describe the feeling, it would be like there is a magnet on the column that turns on and off rapidly. But it will only last for maybe 1/8 of a turn of the wheel, but if I go back and forth with the steering, it will keep doing it. Next turn, it won't do it. Strangest thing.
