slight engine resonance through steering wheel

Hello everyone, I just wanted to update this thread. The dealer finally had a look at my truck. I have to say, the service manager at my dealership was excellent, and seemed to be a good guy. He and I took a long test drive and he was able to feel the vibration. They took the truck in and removed and tested the front wheels. He said one tested good and the other was way off. After the fix he said he test drove and all was normal.

I pick up the truck and it’s the same crap. No change with the vibration. Service manger said they have some kind of machine that they hook up to the truck to detect and pinpoint where the vibration is coming from. I’m just wondering if this will work or if there is anything else they can check. He said when they had the truck in, everything looks tight in the front. He also told me that it’s not a transmission problem. Don’t know what to believe anymore, but i’m gonna give them another chance before bringing to a different dealer. The truck is totally awesome but this issue is killing it for me. Just wish they could pinpoint this problem the first time.

One the first attempt, did they use this "all knowing vibes detection/pinpoint machine"?

Hell, why not do all 4 wheels?

They did not use the vibe machine yet. they said that’s next.
I hope someone here has heard of or seen, "the vibe machine".

I would wonder why the "vibe machine" was not pulled out of the arsenal to begin with.

This is yet another reason why in my 45 years as a tech/service manager, I never ever wanted to work at a dealer. Fake It Till You Make It.

UPDATE: Still dealing with this issue. I had the truck at the dealer for a few days, they hooked it up to the vibe machine, and they got back to me today and told me everything is normal. I was in shock. The vibration resonating through the steering wheel is horrible, and they said that is normal for the truck. I have 1800 miles on it!! I told them I was t satisfied and when I went in to pick up the truck, the service manager, and a technician took a test drive with me to see what my concern was. The tech drove the truck and was able to replicate the problem and he said he thinks it’s within the norm for this truck, after the test drive, the service manager pulled out a brand new 2024 tahoe and let me test drive that to see if I felt the same thing. I admit I felt very slight and similar vibration like mine, but still very smooth. Mine is much worse.

I want to say, the service manager is the best I have ever dealt with in any dealer ever. He told me there is not anything else they can do. I’m not sure what to do next. I’m contemplating bringing the truck to an independent mechanic and just pay out of pocket to see if they can pinpoint the issue. Im at the end of my rope

Have you not talked to a general manager or area manager yet? IMO, I have seen where a vibration was very very hard to find and a tech friend of mine said to loosen all the mounts-motor, rack, transfer case, transmission.....etc. and then retension when weight is on all wheels. Have it on a drive on rack. The hard to find vibes was fixed by him. I am just shooting in the dark if you have another tech look at it.

If that is the cylinder de-activation causing the vibration it might just get worse. Our '19 was really smooth when new, I didn't know it had this actually. After some miles I started feeling it on light acceleration, now at 30k miles I'm feeling it a bit all the time it's on just four cylinders. Starting to worry me too. Wish I'd known about this before we got it. I assumed this drivetrain was bulletproof like the earlier years.

No, I have not spoken to anybody above the service manager at my dealership. I plan on bringing it to my regular guy who services my other vehicles to get his opinion. I’m starting to wonder if it is possibly the DFM.

Remember, my vehicle was doing this from the minute I took delivery and drove it home. If anyone knows how I could even temporarily shut off the dfm to see if this is the issue, that would be great.

I saw another thread where there is a delete device available, but it does t seem like the kind I can easily plug in under the dashboard. Plus, do t really feel like shelling out $250 bucks for something that isn’t was,is accessible and might not work. Any other suggestions on how to do this? Or is there another, cheaper option?

I don’t have the gas engine (LM2 owner) but I believe it’s been mentioned on this forum before that if you activate the manual shift button “L” and put it into L9 it won’t let it go to 10th gear, but also won’t activate DFM. Worth a try at least…
