Weird tire cupping

Did a search, could not find anything..

I noticed today, the rear, driver's side tire is cupping badly. Inner tread block is gone as well.

I last rotated the tires about 3-4k miles ago. Never noticed this before. I tow a few times every 4-5 mos, and sometimes will get a tire chirp when turning at an intersection. Other than that, not sure what else could be?

I jacked up the rear, and moved the wheel side to side, and noticed no play. Truck is at 195k.

Any ideas?

A lot of times tire cupping is due to a worn part in the suspension. More than likely you need new rear shocks. They probably have not been changed in 100k miles if ever at all so you are probably overdue.

That's kinda what I figured..

I'm going to rotate today, and keep a close eye on tire wear..

How much do the shocks run for the LT (air ride?).. best place to buy? Rock Auto?

Maybe the tire pressure is not correct??

That's how much a shop said it would cost to fix my Tahoe lol..

They said, the cupping tire came from front, and in front, I need to replace an idler arm and pitman arm. They also said my shocks were shot.

I know I need front brakes, so I had them quote me that too - what the hay!

Add alignment and misc supplies, and labor and I need to come up with 3Gs to fix my Tahoe.

They quoted me Monroe air shocks at $399 each, or said OE would be $499 each. Can I go to a regular shock? I don't notice it needs them, but might be because of the air ride. I tow maybe 4-5 times/year.

I'll prob buy all the parts from Rock Auto and take to someone to install the arms. I'll do the brakes and shocks myself.

http://www.arnottindustries.com has Bilstein air shocks for about $380 for two fronts, thats if you want to keep the auto/air ride. There are many around here that did get rid of the auto ride, I am not sure on the details, but there is an easy fix to turn the dash light and DIC message off. I know my shocks are wearing and I want to keep the auto ride, so I am just going to do the front and back at two different times, so I don't have to spend a grand at once.
