Just noticed a 1 - 1.5 inch crack on my drivers side exhaust manifold. Can that be welded? It is located near the rear port, on the "flat" part of the manifold.

Not that it can't be done, but cast iron doesn't weld particularly well - especially given the nature of the part's heat cycling... Perfect excuse/opportunity to upgrade to headers. If you don't want to replace other parts of the exhaust system, shorties are a drop in replacement. Gibson is known for great quality fit/finish.

Take it to a welder you trust and ask them to arc weld it using a low oxygen nickel rod...it will work fine...Also, it could be welded with a MIG equipped is 70S wire, after you warm the manifold up with a torch to the point that you can't hold your hand on it....or JB Weld the hell out of it...if its mixed right, it will last forever.
