In my mind a carrier bearing is an additional support for a two piece driveshaft that is bolted to the frame. If you are talking about differential bearings then there is the side bearings and the pinion bearing and at the end of the tubes, axle bearings. Am I missing something about what you said?

nope, your correct. carrier's support the diff assy and the axle's slide into them. Two piece driveshafts use that center support bearing. i was saying that on our tahoe the worn carrier bearing was creating a vibration that was not relative to the driveshaft but could be felt in the seat and had a dull harmonic in the interior.
