I was thinking of sticking with Dex cool but I think that it is what caused my intake gasket to start leaking

Is there anything you guys add to battle rust? Any additives?

I add a qt or so of vinegar a few days before I flush mine out, seems to work as good as the Prestone flush stuff

The original plastic/composite gaskets were a ****** design to begin with.

The way the Vortec intake is bolted down vertically and the different expansion rates between cast iron heads and aluminum intake along with the featherweight 11 lb torque settings causes what I call gasket slide. The small movements between the intake and heads causes the o-ring on the gasket to deform and thats what causes the leaks. The updated Fel-pro gaskets don't have this problem because the rubber gaskets are beefier and don't allow as much movement between the 2. The gaskets on mine and most of the others I've seen look deformed, not ''ate up''. Thats my theory anyway

Dexacool is a great coolant, where it gets is horible explanation is from un-aware techs, as well as stupid owners.

Only one person who posted KNOWS (just saying by the way he posted, no one else failed to mention it except it is horrible) that YOU CAN NOT MIX Dex and Reg antifreeze. Dex when mixed with reg coolant do not bond well, it causes a chemical reaction that causes it to eat everything inside your drive train, even metal parts. THIS is why ALOT of shops now don't even top off Fluids anymore. You see these Cheap DIY just paying a few bucks cheaper for coolant and just topping/exhanging with regular cooant. When switching/downgrading to coolant Your you must flush your system.

I personally think coolant is cheap enough and easy to flush and replace with fresh coolant. Every 30k, Prestone 50/50 mix or Unmixed. Whatever is on sale at the time.

I know that you can't mix dexcool with anything. I would never mix ANY different antifreeze's together. Dexcool is the only antifreeze my truck has ever seen, I just don't wanna keep using it because of the gasket leak.
