You only need the laptop to run TIS2000 and to do pass thru programming. TIS2000 is obsolete but does have the updates for cars and trucks built before 2008. I use TIS2000 to view snap shots taken with the Tech-2 which you may have seen posted here before over the years.

If you do pass thru programming, you can use this computer or a modern one to connect directly to the ACDelco TDS system.

Hopefully next week, we'll be doing some more programming with the Tech-2 for the 2-Way Advanced Remote Start. So when that is done, we hook the Tech-2 up to the truck and go into the SPS system and basically record the VIN and configuration into the Tech-2. Then go into the house with the Tech-2, connect it to my computer, access ACDelco's TDS system and fire up the Tech-2 and then the online menus open so I can download the software needed for the truck. Disconnect, go back to the truck and back into SPS and it automatically downloads. I was very hesitant at first but have a better understanding of it now.

Are you sure you can do it that way? when I have done it the tech2 has to be connected to the pc and the internet at the same time, I never saw any option to download to the tech2 and then transfer it to the vehicle without having a active connection to the internet.

the software on those disc's are pretty outdated and slow, better to just use tdsweb and use the tech2 as the passthru with a regular browser

What's the 2-way advanced remote start?

How did you find the programming for it when you enter your VIN on the website? I didn't see anything like that listed a few months ago when I was checking for updates for my VIN.

Yes, it's connected to the PC and internet at the same time. I log in at TDS and then turn on the Tech-2 for the menus at TDS to open, they won't if the Tech-2 is off or disconnected if I remember right.

The programming for it is listed under the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver with "Yellow Label". The 2-Way ARS was a GM Accessory to increase the range of the device and gave you a screen on the remote to see your odometer, air pressure in the tires, fuel level and could change radio channels such as while tailgating. It also tells you if the truck responded to the command to lock, remote start, unlock, etc.

The part number for my truck is not available anymore, it was 19156555 or 19244151. But I identified the individual part numbers needed and found them in other kits for other vehicles. Different installation instructions but I was able to obtain electronic installation instructions for the GM Wagons. So, that's my risk, we're going to install it, program it and hopefully it works. If not, we'll remove the yellow label RCDLR and put the old one back in and put the stuff back up for sale on ebay.

The photo below is a representation of what they look like, about twice as thick as the stock ones. Yours and mine have different button configurations because of our installed options, you'll have two more buttons for your liftgate glass and liftgate. Mine, just one for the glass. The panic alarm on ours is moved to the sides, squeezing both sides to set off the "find it" or full alarm.
