It is a dumb "improvement" GM made.

You can order a tensioner for a 2008 and install it, the bolt holes are still there according to one of the other members who has already done it.

I'm not sure how much the stretch tool costs but I would rather put that money towards a tensioner.
Ahh. Mines an 07 so I still have the tensioner.

funny it doesn't mention that stupid metal tab that gets in the way, you have to place it just right to get the belt on, getting it off is no problem
at least that's how it is on my 6.2 2012

It took me a few tries before i figured it out.
I even tossed it at one point, and then tried to roll the belt on with out it.

When that was a serious pita, i went back to the tool and figured it out.
