I'm thinking about removing the manifolds when doing motor mounts. Too risky? I'd rather replace the bolts now than worry about them. Is head removal the only way to fix it when one snaps?

Why does everything on this truck feel like a ticking time bomb?

it's all ls's they pop manifold bolts.. even my ls3 car did it.

definitely don't need to pull the head.. just use the clamps or pull the manifold, they usually aren't tight in the head. maybe in the rush belt as everything is haha. but normally if any is showing you cam unscrew them pretty easily. if not, I just build up a little bit of weld with a cheap mig and screw them out. since the head is aluminum it doesn't try to stick to anything but the bolt. few tacks, clip on vice grips and it should screw out.

personally I hate header/manifold bolts.. even good ones are meh. I perfer studs with flanged crimp lock nuts. never have to touch them again.

I used the Dorman kit for mustangs on my car, took 2 kits but they are super cheap, good 10.8 grade but I believe they now sell a ls kit too.

I'm all for arp but I feel like header bolts suck enough I didn't want them haha.
they don't make them anymore, but old sbc days they had some header bolts that were drilled and tapped in the middle for a set screw. once you tightened the header bolt you tightened the set screw and it flared out the bolt and locked it. those were nice but expensive.

I have those on my mustang. At the time they were made by Breslin and called Split Lock header bolts. I think they got bought by Percy, or at least they have a line of them now.

Who makes the best exhaust manifold stud kit? Sounds like people have been happy with the Dorman.. under $20 for a set!

I just had a new windshield installed for $220! Cheaper than most every other part you need to maintain these things!
I got one with a tint band, but it's slightly higher than the rearview mirror spots, so it doesn't look so great, but I'll take it over my scratched up old windshield..
I want a tint band one. Was that an option from the glass company?

best? I don't know.. it's just m8 little bolts, I think you'd pull the threads out of the aluminum with even hardware store level bolts, but gm sure found a way to break off bolts haha.
I worked in a mustang shop for years and never saw a single factory stud issue on those mod motors. we always threw the bolts that came with the headers away and reused the factory studs.

I'm fine with Dorman on mine, 10.8 grade for metric is above the normal used stuff. but if you're worried you could buy them from Ford?
