What does this interior mic do?

I am working on my center console on my 06Denali XL. I pull out this microphone gm 15240415 from the drivers side about 1ft of the ground just in front of the drivers seat. Does anyone know what it's for?

Here is an eBay ad. It says it's an Onstar mic, but I don't understand why there would be an Onstar mic there so low and on the side of the center console.

yes i do have Onstar. i just thought my onstar mic was attach to my over-head console where the rear ac controls are at.

yes, i though the mic on the side on that over head console was my onstar mic. however in my center console there was another mic. here is a pic.

if you look at the little dimple off to the left clip mount, that is where this mic mounts to from the inside
