What else to replace when I put in my new cam?

if you are going through it all yourself, might as well install a new high volume or ported oil pump, swap in e-fans while you are at it and maybe a underdrive pulley set.

is a oil pump really that necessary? especially if it has lower miles? I have the heads off and i'm replacing the timing chain so I suppose I might as well

get a ported performance pump or is it going to matter?

Does the LS2 timing chain use the same stock gears that i already have? Or should i get a whole LS2 timing set?

Great Thread!

I just bought a 2000 Z71 / 5.3 and am doing a cam swap.

I Talked to my Friend Zippy ( Zippy performance) ( he's on performance trucks .net) and He reccomended a 220-224 ( which is a Trick flow) grind cam for my truck.

He has dynoed a stock 5.3 with this cam, corsa cat back exhaust, Tune, cold air intake .

Made 309 horse at the rear wheels! Stock is 240 at the rear.

Like i said earlier cams are awesome!

I was Told to get push rods, oil pump, timing chain, and a new water pump. ( my truck has a few miles on it.)
Seems the 5.3 water pumps usually go at around 90,000 miles according to my friend who is a service manager at the chevy dealer.

Zippy also sells a trailblazer torque converter, they are made by precision industries for their industrial line. They stall around 2500 and are only 200$ !

Zip told me he has sold about 200 of them with only one failure( guy beat the shit out of his 500RWHP truck) But said they are holding up well behind Radix supercharged trucks. Im going to try one.

oil pump is cheap insurance especially for the year. My 99 LS1 had intermittent oil pressure issues and yes it was the o-ring but for the money and time, it was worth a replacement especially for a ported LS6 pump. a bit of overkill but I also changed out my timing chain to a double roller and got rid of the stock lazy lifters.

I think a torque converter may be in near future though after reading Tim's post!lol
