Wondering if anyone is running side piped exhaust without a muffler? My stock exhaust on an 04 Hoe is rusting out from the muffler to before the tailpipe bends up over the rear axle- was thinking about cutting off the tailpipe and clamping it right to the pipe in between the Y-pipe and muffler, exiting by the right rear passenger wheel. figure the exhaust hanger upstream from the muffler could handle the little weight. Only concern is it being TOO loud, I take a 1200km (~700mi) trip to work twice a month which amounts to 12-15 hours of driving depending on conditions. Also would the shortened pipes with no muffler screw with the back pressure? Thanks in advance

EDIT: same exit location as this Tahoe but stock exhaust tip. also I have no running boards

Exactly what I've been trying to tell people who always ask me about them. "How are the flowmasters with longtubes and cam and s/c and this and that?" The same tone as they make on every other truck you hear going down the road.

I thought I was the only one who thought like that. ..

Just installed a magnaflow 12259 from Norcal SS on my '05 Yukon and it sounds great. Well worth the $105.00.

Finally got my custom exhaust setup. Had longtubes with the stock muffler. Ditched the big heavy unit with a borla race muffler a buddy had then added a flowmaster 10 series as a resonator (you can just see it to the left of the tire). The borla barely made a difference vs no muffler, but the flowmaster made it perfect. Certainly picked up some MPG to boot and not any louder in the cab at interstate speeds. My wife didn't even notice.

Wish I would have captured a sound clip with no muffler. She would have woken the dead.

I just finished installing a 18" case 3" in/out Magnaflow muffler and a 3.5" slash cut tip on my 04 Tahoe. Low rumble at start up and idle, barks well during revving and hard acceleration. Smooth tone at cruise, no interior droning.

Magnaflow cat-back with 3" single tubing. Have a Borla 40359 muffler and don't like the throne. Hope to replace the muffler with Borla 400436.
