I recently bought a 2001 tahoe. There are 3 buttons on the center console right to left. The emergency, onstar and then there is a button with a white dot on it and a little green light to the left. I believe it is set up for a hands free cell phone. It has the antenna through the back window and a microphone to the left of the dome. How do I use it or even set it up for an iPhone? Do I need to go to the dealer? Someone please help!!

Haha that is not a mic in your headliner it is for the HAVC system it might buzz here and there because its covered in dust! Nope diff not hands free. Any way your onstar will not work unless you or previous owner has upgraded to the digital onstar since 2007!!! In 2007 onstar switched to digital from analog. Just FYI.

And that is probably not a antenna in the back window and is more then Likely your rear defroster.

"... has upgraded to the digital onstar since 2007"
What does that mean? Physical equipment upgrade, or just the membership??? I bought a 2005 Yukon with OnStar. Went to their website and registered it and it works fine.

No, the older models had an Onstar antenna mounted to the glass on the back left side. Unfortunately you cannot use any of this system anymore. The cell phone companies went all digital, and that version of onstar is analog. So, the whole thing is useless. The little black microphone next to the dome lights on the console was for use with onstar.

It's nice to read a response that is completely correct. ;)

I read these posts to mean "older models" as being pre 2007 (?)
Mine's a 2005 and has that 3" antenna on the roof over the driver.
And LOL speaking of analog-to-digital. I had a Motorola analog fliphone. When they all went digital I tossed it in the trash...haven't had a cell phone since! Just can't be bothered with calls or the expense. You know - you can add phone to OnStar if you wanted...just buy minutes.

Older models as in 2002 and prior. There were kits to upgrade the 03 and 04's to be able to use analog and digital.
