What made you decide on a high country over a Denali?

The 6.2 does nothing for me in a family vehicle, I wouldn’t even consider it for the cost. The dmax is a much more appealing upgrade. I have high horsepower diesel trucks and a 68 chevelle I’m building another big block for, in the suburban I’ll take fuel mileage and reliability every day of the week.

We had zero issues with our Yukon Duramax in MI last winter with a few sub-zero days. I wouldn't even consider plugging in the block heater until it went lower than -20*F, as suggested by GM.

That’s a non issue, I live in PA where -20 spells with wind chill aren’t uncommon and I don’t plug in my older 5.9s, my 7.3 powerstroke which are notoriously ****** cold starters, and certainly not my 6.7 cummins. The 3.0 DURAMAX (not babymax) like any other modern diesel doesn’t have issues in cold weather.

You may be right..but we routinely get 2-3 weeks a winter where the HIGH temp for the day is 0, with some days where the high is -10, and the lows are -25 ish...
I didn't see a cycle of:
Sit in garage at 10F
Cold Start
Drive 7 miles to work
Sit in parking lot, soaking at 0 (or -10) all day
Go outside at 5:30pm where actual temp is -10
Cold Start
Drive 7 miles home
Repeat 5x days in a row being a good situation w/ the Diesel and DPF and DEF....seemed like a recipe for failed exhaust regen cycles...

If I were taking longer trips to/from work, I would have considered it...maybe I am a fool...

There’s nothing wrong with having reservations about something and your gut feeling isn’t something to ignore. I currently own 6 diesel trucks from 96-16 so I’m pretty comfortable around them to say the least.

Enough guys with 3.0s in their trucks use them as grocery getters that im not worried about it. My wife has a short work commute but anytime we go anywhere which is often we take the suburban so it gets ran good as well.

I totally agree with that. If I want a smile in my face I go with the 6.2 in a Corvette. I don't care in an SUV big and heavy like a ship. That being said, the 5.3 is plenty of power and brings enough joy. Day and night to the previous model

There really is no comparison from new to old, I was impressed.

I'm also saying the 3.0 doesn't put out near the contaminates of a HD diesel pickup, let's say. I believe this engine was designed to as closely emulate daily life in a gas vehicle as possible. it is up to temp far faster than any HD diesel I've drove. I've short tripped mine for weeks straight with zero effects. Any given week, though it may sprint 100 miles when something comes up. I don't even worry about that aspect of it any more. It's not quite the same animal.
