what may be wrong on 07 tahoe?

i just bought a 2007 tahoe a couple weeks ago and now the gear shifter or something else that is causing my locks to lock and unlock repeatedly and now it is having trouble staying in gear. also the gear shifter itself is really loose and idk if that may have something to do with it. i dont want to take it to the dealer just to have them charge an outrageous amount of money to just look and see what may be wrong. but i am afraid it may end up tearing up my transmission if it shifts into the wrong gear while im driving or cause an accident. any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

no ideas on maybe where to start looking? do you think it may be covered under the manufacturer 100,000 mile warranty? since its kinda tied into the transmission?

The problem is its an 07.

this is a dumbass comment for this vehicle line. most of the components on these trucks (sierra, silverado, yukon, suburban, tahoe, escalade) have not changed in 10 years.

the body panels and interior trim are the major changes. The 5.3 engine is the same (awesome, 200k + miles = standard) it always has been (with minor improvements, refinements) and the trannys are essentially the same with minor improvements.

In fact, most of the tahoe/yukon nicer upgrades (air ride) are passed down after a few years in the escalade....i'm sure in a couple years mag-ride suspension will be on denali and LTZ....

if you want it fixed best thing to do is take it to the dealership/mechanic, If you don't have the knowledge on how to fix it yourself.

I know you might get the run around but hopefully you might just get it fixed

well my husband is a mechanic in the oil field and used to work for his dad doing diesel work but never anything with electronics. hes comfortable with fixing it himself but just wants an idea on where to start. it could be anything from a tiny little switch to something much larger. just thought id ask people who seem to deal with them a bit more. :)

You always pay a little more but I would stick with the dealership. Then you also have more credible paperwork when it's time to sell
